AC Measures Every Homeowner Should Know

A poorly managed air conditioning system can mean skyrocketing bills during summer. According to This Old House Magazine, there are 9 things that every homeowner should know if he wants to keep his home comfortably cool, and his bills affordably low. Here are some of them:
  • Change air filters once every month and consider the product’s minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) — higher value means better filtration but also greater energy consumption.
  • Use foil tape or duct mastic for ductwork, and tape foam between the AC and the window frame, to seal gaps and prevent leakage.
  • Invest on a programmable thermostat and set the AC at a higher temperature while you are outdoors.
