Beating the Heat – Australian Style

As Australia scorches through some of the hottest days, SA Health is reminding people to keep themselves cool and hydrated to avoid heat stroke and exhaustion.

According to Dr. Kevin Buckett, Director of Public Health, SA Health said that South Australia was looking at an extended period of extreme hot weather and that people need to take precautionary measures to beat the heat.

“During hot weather, it’s important to stay well hydrated by drinking lots of water and keeping out of the sun where possible,” Dr Buckett said.

To beat the heat, drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol or caffeine as these drinks can increase dehydration. Wearing light, loose, and comfortable clothing is also important. Always wear a sunscreen when going outside and avoid outdoor activities; if you need to exercise, do it later during the day.
