Burglars Access Homes Through AC Units in Windows

You may think of your AC as a harmless device, there only to provide comfort during hot days. However, authorities from East Longmeadow will tell you otherwise. Although the units themselves are harmless, burglars have been reported to have used these access points in getting into homes.

Police Detective Joseph Barone said in a report by Dave Canton for MassLive.com that East Longmeadow has had three cases in which homes were robbed by gaining access through windows with AC units.
“In all three cases the thieves took out the air conditioners to gain access,” he said. “This is a good time to either remove the air conditioner and lock your windows, or make sure the air conditioning unit is firmly secured in the widow.”
