Dead Satellite Can Impair Weather Prediction
Officials from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration are completely aware that the polar satellite of the United States will soon reach the end of its life. Unfortunately, possible replacement has been delayed by financial issues as well as technical problems.
According to NOAA, such dilemma might leave US without a polar orbiting satellite for up to 53 months. This could actually result to less accurate weather forecasts.
Since the US Government Accountability Office is well aware of the situation, they have added the issue to the High Risk List in 2013. Hopefully, the polar orbiting satellite project will be realized sooner than expected.
