How Extreme Weather Climate Changes Affect Wildfires

Last year, 2012, isn’t a great year for Colorado. The state suffered record-breaking wildfires with over 4,000 fires that resulted in 6 fatalities, 648 buildings were destroyed and 500 million dollars worth of property damage.

Still this year, 2013, Coloradans have suffered once again from wildfires, and extreme weather changes will definitely add fuel to the fire over the next couple of years. Colorado’s wildfires thrive in low humidity, high winds, and dry air that will worsen with the ever-changing weather. Thomas Tidwell, US Forest Service head, reported that the fire season will be twice longer than before as it will last 2 more months and will destroy twice as much. Fires are now burning land and properties faster than it did years ago.
