How to Avoid the Adverse Effects of Lengthy AC Exposure

Excessive exposure to air conditioning can have numerous adverse effects to our bodies and health. Not only does it lower our tolerance for heat and cause skin dryness and irritation, contaminated units can actually lead to serious respiratory complications, such as legionnaires’ disease, and aggravate existing illnesses, such as low blood pressure, arthritis and neuritis.

A study conducted by Dr. Mark Mendell, an epidemiologist with the California Department of Public Health, showed that poorly-maintained units can worsen asthma and allergies. Dr. Bonnie Henry, deputy provincial health officer for the B.C. Ministry of Health in Victoria, on the other hand, suggests proper maintenance and temperature and humidity regulation to avoid the said adverse effects.
