How to Winterize Your Air Conditioner

Winterizing your air conditioner shouldn’t start and end at turning the unit off and leaving it alone until you need it again come warm season. Follow these steps to make sure that your AC, particularly the outdoor unit, stays in proper condition while it sits through fall and winter:

  1. Hose dirt, leaves and debris off the exterior unit
  2. Brush off any remaining dirt after it dries
  3. Cover it with a tarp or an AC cover
  4. Secure the cover with bungee cords
  5. Make sure the cover is intact throughout the cold season
