DIY Removal of Mold Growth in HVAC

Check your aiconditioner weekly to avoid mold growth.Aside from damage on your heating and cooling itself, another issue that may take its toll is mold growth. Not only will this growth cause problems on your HVAC, it can cause serious health issues if left untreated.

Areas that homeowners should be mindful of are air ducts, cooling coils, drip pans, and intake vents as these are ideal spots for mold growth. If you feel like there’s a suspicious odor coming out of your system but can’t seem to locate where it is from, it’s best to call a professional to deal with the issue for you.
However, if the mold growth is nothing major and you can visibly see where it is from, some good cleaning will do. Here are steps you must take according to “Budget HVAC Mold Removal“:
  • Use a simple detergent and water solution. Baking soda or a borax solution of a gallon of water for every cup of borax can also be effective.
  • Use some safety precautions before getting started. This typically includes a respirator, air mask, safety goggles, and rubber gloves.
  • Apply your cleaning solution with a spray bottle or damp rag. Let the solution set for a few minutes before scrubbing in a circular motion. Wipe the area with a paper towel or dry rag. Repeat as necessary.
